Pattern part problem

10 posts in this topic

Ordered a pattern right-hand footpeg from David Silver last week (chucked my X down the road, only light damage, thankfully, to me and bike). I'd have preferred genuine, but that wasn't listed on their website.

Anyway, part arrived a few days later, but they'd sent the wrong side. Arranged a swap, sent the wrong one back. The correct side duly arrived this morning, BUT... it doesn't fit. I can get it to go on, but the peg is rigid once on the hanger. I've had to get them to order me a genuine part, which is going to take about a week to arrive. Grrr. Serves me right for not calling them to get me a gen part in the first place, I suppose.

glad you were ok, may have been worth asking if any members had the foot peg as if you lower the pegs you have to use non standard pegs after, just a thought Bry

Too bad, Chris. Glad you're OK, though. Aftermarket parts are sometimes a gamble - had something similar with some levers a few years back and ended up grinding them down to make them work. After I found the clutch lever stuck while riding. That was fun...

I think that's poor from a company that specialises in Honda only parts

The footpeg on the X11 is a generic part used on other models, probably find a breaker with one that will match if you take the original along.David Silver sells the rubbers seperately so it can be cleaned up and made to look like new.

Thanks all for the responses.

I tried a few breakers before ordering new parts, but that's always a humbling experience, most breakers struggling to string together a sentence, especially one that contains the words 'please' or 'thank-you'.

There's a couple of hangers on 'the bay', inevitably without the peg. Luckily I have my XLV750R to use as an alternative, but having the X laid up for any length of time is frustrating. It's a bike of which I never tire.

I suspect my 'off' may, in some measure, be down to worn bearings, either head or wheel. I'd been sensing a slight play in the front end and experienced the odd judder of the front wheel when coming to a firm stop. Does this sound like a fair diagnosis? I've new bearings awaiting fitment once I can get the bike to the shop. I don't have the confidence to tackle them myself.

I think the Blackbird & VFR footpegs & rubbers are the same as x11.

Have a look on Silver's web site or eeeeebog. :)

Yeah, Silver didn't have genuine Blackbird pegs in stock either. Didn't know VFRs were the same, but I do now, so thanks Rae.

bearings can cause the juttering problem you have. I felt something similar on mine. I took my forks out and apart and when I drained the oil out, one was really black and dirty and only about 150 ml came out (supposed to be about 480) and the other one came out a bit "milky" looking, which tells me it had water in it.

The springs were also differnt sizes - "milky" one was slightly shorter. So, new springs and oil and seals for me and it shold be good to go.

To check the bearings, put it on the center stand and have someone push the rear down, so the front lifts off the ground. Sit on the ground in front of the bike an grab the wheel. Give it some good tugs towards and away from you. If you feel play or movement, the bearings need replacing or are at least worn. That's how I check them, at least.
