Help with paint and accesories

8 posts in this topic

Hi all

I bought my X11 in the Autumn last year and am now looking forward to getting out again.

The bike is pretty good all round - it has had a new rear shock, handle bar risers, new front fork springs etc. The only thing thast lets it down is the paint work - there are stone chips on the frame, the forks and it has been touched up all over the place. I would really like to just hand over the bike and get it back all looking like new - plus have a tail tidy and a belly pan fitted... I am not too hot on the mechanics myself so am looking for recommendations for some help in the midlands. Does anyone know anyone that can do this work??

Thanks, Jim

Tricky one, most car painters won't touch bike parts as they are too much like hard work small fiddly bits that take time to prep and they don't want to strip them down. most places will do an indifferent job on your parts due to lack of interest. There are specialist bike painters our there, dream machine is one that springs to mind not cheap would look to pay in the region of £350-£450 + vat for full paint job, some will do a collection and return via courier if required.Have a look on Google and in the small ads in the bike mags & MCN, there are some out there but the good ones don't tend to advertise, the paint should not be a problem, if you have the standard rear end, lift the seat and there should be a sticker near the tool kit if i remember correctly this will give the original paint code, failing that do a search on here there are posts relating to colour codes somewhere. Another option would be to ask around a few local bike dealers/shops see if they use someone.

Hi besides bike shops ask around for any good bike mechs. as these are the people who have all the contacts in the trade and may be willing to strip the parts also fit the tail tidy and belly pan if you do it now they may be glad of the work before the easter and spring rush.Go to a local bike meeting place and ask for info there is a lot out there ,hope this as been of help Brycool.gif

Sort it yourself. You never learn if you don't try! I have sprayed nearly all my bike myself apart from the tank which i had to pay for.

Get stuck in, it cheaper!

Thanks fo rthe tips. I think I may have left this too late as the dealers are all too busy to even talk to me. The cosmetics aren't bad really - no one else would notice them... it's just that when a bike goes so well it deserves some pampering

Raeman - maybe I should just do it myself.

Cheers!

Why not? It's allways the cheapest option, and you can make sure it's done to high standards whilst you learn and pick up new skills! Well that's what i think!

Good luck. ;)

See if you can get your paintwork looking a bit brighter with some cutting polish and elbow grease, plenty good stuff out there to bring the clearcoat back to gloss, Raeman would be my phone a friend on this subject as he seems to have an abundance of elbow grease and his bike is a credit to him.
