misfire after changing the plugs

12 posts in this topic

hi all...

im baffled at the moment...

servicing my x11 and swapped the plugs for a new set of irridium ones, built it all back up and its missing its bits off!!

checked all the plugs for a spark and 2 had a weak spark. checked the plug leads with a good plug and all seemed ok.

got 2 new plugs and its just the same!!

put the old plugs back in and its the same!!!! gggrrrr!!!

are the coil packs suseptable to damage=ing easily when taking the air box off?

i knoiw the leads, plug caps and coils come apart but cant see a problem there....

any ideas guys!?

May sound silly but have you put the leads back on the correct plugs?

Make sure you plugged the sensor back into the airbox lid.

Have you reversed the low tension conections on the coil

i feel a little daft here!! lol

im a car mechanic by trade and blindly put the plug leads on wrong!! lol

its worth remembering that the left coil serves cylinder 2 and 3 and the right coil serves cylinder 1 and 4!!!

for ever this will be ingrained in my mind!! lol

Don't worry, the main thing is "the beast is back." We just need some decent weather now for you to give it a good run.

Aye, if I had a pound for every time I'd mixed plug leads........I'd have ££................... 2 quid

... and if I had one for every time I'd dismantled a non-starting bike before I discovered I'd left the kill switch off.... :D

Years ago I got some of my mates pushing me up and down the road on a LC for around an hour trying to start it only to find out that the kill switch was off.Doh. :biggrin3d:

Just done exactly the same thing, no one on earth can give me the mental beating that I've given myself. Should have known better.

Possibly the most annoying thing about it is the time and trouble it takes to take the tank and the air box off, reassemble it then realise that it's all got to be done again!

Not a happy chap.
