Clunky 1st gear

6 posts in this topic

Ever since i have owned the X11 it has thudded into 1st gear from neutral, this weekend i got the better of it. It has always idled at around 1100rpm, the manual gives a fair tolerance on idle speed (1000rpm +/- 100), so i lowered it to between 900-950 and hey presto, it still idles smoothly when warmed up and 1st gear just falls in with a snick rather than a thud, i no longer frighten small children at traffic lights when putting it into gear (unless i smile at them), i have had similar with other bikes it is not just the X, but it is a quick and cheap cure.

If you kneel next to the left hand side of the bike, look at the rear of the throttle bodies, you will see a yellow plastic wheel sticking out of the back. This is used to adjust idle speed. It should be easy to turn with the aid if a longish screwdriver. If my old memory serves me correctly unscrewing this slows the tickover and vica versa.
