Look up a company called triple s near Bradford on the internet, they are a specialist motorcycle powdercoating company, they quote ?15 for a flat finish and ?21 for metalic. Are you using a company that is used to motorcycle parts, because powdercoating can be done badly.

Don't forget that on top of your coating costs, you may also need to budjet for new bearings, seals ect...

That's if it can be coated with them in situ, is so then ok.

When you ring whoever to have it done, ask them about the bearings, if they have to come out then do it yourself as they will charge you for extra work and maybe so for just de-greasing it aswell.

X11r had his done, he will know.;D

I would be sceptical that the bearings would be in best condition (you will loose any lubricant in them due to heat) if the coaters are using a high temp bake to cure the powder, also any plastic covers seals will be destroyed. Better to remove any items such as these otherwise you will be charged extra for the labour to do the job for you. If you look on the triple S site they use blanks to ensure the bearing surfaces are left uncoated to allow the easy refit of replacment bearings (it does make sense to replace for new when the thing is stripped down to this degree).

Aye, wise words fellas... I think it was Fe5ta who had his wheels done by a supposedly biker friendly place... they came back full of grit and thus twice the weight!

Some of them cut corners by using large grit particles as they strip the old paint/powder faster, danger is that they damage the surface by pitting it.Cleaning the pre coated parts is also very important, any grease or oil under the powder will cause the coating bond to fail, another reason why bearings are best removed.

I'd highly recommend TripleS too, when I refurbished my baby in 2006 wheels (bearings out and totally degreased by me before sending), givi rack, yolks and fork leg lowers all went to them.

Everything came back with a perfect finish, every thread hole was perfectly clean and every bearing surface was totally spotless to, so reassembly of everything was a doddle.

Gr8 turn around too think it was 7 days.

Yes I did and I wont be going back, they used grit that was too harsh then didn`t clean it out of the wheels properly, so when driving the bearings home... Hey presto a horrible pile of grit on the floor and even more floating about in the wheels. scratch 1 set of bearings :BangHead:

I made up tools and pressed my bearings out before having my swing arm powder coated then replaced them as they were ok , just made a new inner bush for the L/H side as it had a small amount of wear but could have been re'used , You have ball race bearings on the R/H side with a spacer in between but roller cages in the L/H side which are a pig to get out because they need to be pressed out from the middle of bearing boss , I re'used all seals as well , If you dont have the correct tools for the roller bearings you will without a doubt ruin them.

looks a bit over engineered to me, bet i could lose some of them bits on a strip down and reassembly and it would still be ok to roll. :D
