Posted July 5, 2025 I'm currently changing the wheel bearings (front and rear) if anyone on here has attempted it you'll be aware of the problems involved. How do you get the first one out (rear). I'm a bit stuck coz I have a cold chisel whispering "use me!" But before I go down that road I'd like some advice!!!! 0 Share this post Link to post
Posted July 5, 2025 Okay, answering my own question. Remove the plastic bearing cover (Hammer and screwdriver) then hammer a smallish screwdriver into the bearing cage to detach it from the ball race (it's attached between each of the balls), this will allow you to tap all of the balls to one side then, using a drift (or what have you) knock the inner bearing sleeve away from the balls. It all falls apart then lift the spacer out and drift the opposite bearing out! Simples!!!! 0 Share this post Link to post

Posted July 6, 2025 BEWARE BEWARE BEWARE BEWARE Once the inner bearing race has been removed and the opposite bearing has been removed in one piece you'll be left with the outer bearing shell from the bearing that was "dismantled", this will present you with a similar problem that you had in the first place, I.e. very difficult to drive out. I'm now forced to consider admitting defeat and take the wheel to a 3rd party to get the outer bearing shell removed. If I had a welding kit I would weld a piece of bar across the outside of the bearing shell then drift it out from the other side! 0 Share this post Link to post
Posted August 5, 2025 Run some weld on inside of the brg shell wait 30 seconds for heat to transfer into the aluminium of the wheel, shell will now be loose tap out with hammer & screwdriver or drift (tap on weld) electric welder required for this mig or stick. 0 Share this post Link to post
