New Tyres....

5 posts in this topic

Just fitted two new tyres to the Big X project.I actually used

Metzeler Roadtec Z8 Interacts..I am a big fan of the old Z6s so

I picked these up at a bargain price and am going to give them a go.

Anyway I remember riding this bike home after purchasing it and it

was absolutely deadly. The slightest lean and the rear felt like it was tucking under.

The front felt all over the place.Honestly I rode home from Tamworth to

Newcastle-under-Lyme on egg shells..one of the worst rides ever!!

The back tyre that I removed was an old Michelin Macadam..it was

dated 4504....which is week 45 , 2004 !!!! In other words about 12 years old.

The front was a Bridgestone Bt021..This had worn to a  properly weird shape.

No wonder the bike was all over the place...How can people ride around

on shite like this....Where is the confidence and fun..whats the point.

On a Big heavy hugely powerfull bike like an X11 they are positively dangerous in my opinion..

Anyway I have chucked these into the skip..and here a couple of Photos of the new rubber.

Another post to follow on changing your own tyres

Great, looks ready for anything. How did you get the bottom fork legs so clean and un-pitted?

Thanks Eddy....Just some elbow grease and a scotchbrite pad Mick, followed by a

soapy wash. Then a pre paint wipe cloth..Leave them for an hour then two coats

of Halfords primer, and then 3 coats of Halfords aluminium, silver. Its surprising the finish that

you can get from rattle cans these days..
