Indicators stopped working...

9 posts in this topic

Been noticing for a while that there is a delay from using the indicator  switch

until I actually get a response from the bulbs.Only a second or so..Especially

when used for the first time on a ride.

Anyway..made a mental note of this anomaly and filed it away as you do.

Rode to work this morning and the left indicator will only pulse once when the switch is

pushed to indicate left .It will keep flashing if I hold the switch to the left.

The right flasher seems to work as normal ..

So any thoughts chaps...Indicator relay or a handle bar switch problem??

Or is there anything else that could effect the performance of ones indicators

that i am ignorant of.

  Any help or suggestions appreciated...

Bar switch problem.

I have it sometimes, specially at the spring when i take the first ride after winter.

Sometimes after a wash.

Cure: spray some wd-40 inside and wiggle it, should help.

If it would be relay problem then right and left side would act same way (unless you have a bulb problem in some indicator).

Sounds like a switch problem to me.

Just for tip: I haven't got any problems yet, but when I got the bike, I noticed it was really sticky to use. What I did was open it up, and spray it with plenty of electronics cleaning spray (alcohol based I think), wiggled the switch, and spray again to "rinse". Did this couple of times to get all the dirt out. I let it dry, and sprayed some WD-40-kind of stuff in. Now it works and feels like new :smileybiker:

Glad to hear you got it sorted out. Just makes me wonder how come it worked while holding the switch...

Maybe the relay is just slowly starting to give up causing weird symptoms - stronger signal to relay when holding the switch, perhaps? :)

It got more strange ....I think it was related to temperature as well.

If I pushed the switch nothing, then one flash, then about 5 seconds and normal flashing.

Unfortuntely the flashing would commence about 50 yards after I completed the turn.

It has been not quite right over the summer and now that the mornings are colder its got worse..

Hello,

I have just purchased an 02 plate X-11 and i have noticed a delay when operating the  indicators.

Can you tell me where the Flasher Relay is so I can change it please???

Cheers

You can find it on the left side of the bike under the tail fairing

Here you go.

Mine started to act funny last summer, i had led indicators with some resistors that are needed with stock relay.

First i changed adjustable relay (there was small screw what you can use to set the blinking speed) it wasnt good at all, vibrations of the bike made the screw turn by it self, sometimes faster, sometimes slower.

It took me a while before i figured out that what the heck was the problem.

Then i changed fully electronic relay and it has been working just fine.
