How much slop ?

8 posts in this topic

So, ignoring what the manual states as that's just ridiculous, unless you want a bar tight chain for some reason, how much slack do you guys leave on the chain with your weight on the bike, just the rider as I never take pillions if I can help it ?

Cheers in advance.

I did mate, but it doesn't state how much slack to leave with the riders weight on the bike, I've got it set with a bit of slack when sat on the bike but I'm still getting vibes at 5000 revs, if I set it any looser though I can hear it slapping about on the overrun so was interested to hear where others are setting theirs.

The same slack as recommended in the handbook..... but instead of it being on the sidestand.

Why does my bike vibrate at 5000 rpm/whatever?

The most likely answer to this question is that your drive chain is too tight!

Forget the bollox in the handbook...
Adjust it with someone of similar weight to yourself sat on the bike! Don't forget to factor in a pillion/luggage etc!

I use 40mm or 1.5" works fine for me.
