Tapered Head Bearings or stick to standard Honda Ball Bearings

4 posts in this topic

Im ready to order some head bearings, got the old ones out already. Just looking for some advice from those who have changed out to tapered bearings. Has it had a good impact on the steering V the original  ball bearing type. I know they have a larger surface area and will wear less just want to hear peoples opinions on if they have made any differnece to the steering and if they like it.

I would NOT take those old style ball bearings.

Quite many manufactures have changed that bearing style to newer tapered ones.

Some Hondas (if i remember right) and Yamahas for sure gets updated bearings if you order oem bearings by the vin number.

That spare part program just changes that part # when you try to order them.

Chek it out.

I would say go for tapered bearings , they are also a lot easier and more forgiving to get the correct adjustment.

The lower race will be a pig to get off the bottom yoke , usually ends up with the bottom seal being destroyed or bent

so may pay to get a new one.
