Top End Access

2 posts in this topic

I was wondering if anyone had a specific procedure for access to the cams / followers / shims.

I've done a lot of research of the last hour or so, regarding valve clearances. I spoke to several Honda specialists who confirmed the remaining rattle I have is probably a few wide clearances. They both said, that engines not used, or some engines in early life can suffer from wide clearances, and that engines with prolonged use in early life, or higher mileage engines do indeed pretty much never need any intervention. So, as I have noise that calms a lot when warm, but is louder when cold, I need to have a look.

My new CCT got rid of a lot of cam chain noise, that definitely smoothed out a lot, and it seems, that as there is some remaining valve noise and as the CCT needed attention that sitting as taken its toll on the top end .. after all with the CCT not having effectively moved for so long, the spring was held in position for ages and the thread was partially seized. .. I can see from the MOT's that over a period of two years the bike did effectively no miles at all!

My questions is what's the best way to get access? Can it be done in frame? Does the frame spare interfere with re-timing the cams as the marks seem to be obscured by the frame..
