Overheating

3 posts in this topic

Thermostat from our MAN 8.163 Horsebox Modified so it will never be able to close, you can not remove it compleatly as the will cause the cooling system to scavenge & not flow correctly, small plate on the bottom needs to be there. Centre part made smaller so it can't seal & drilled around the outside too.

All modern thermostats fail closed so promotes overheating blow head gaskets etc. If you overheat the MAN they are never the same again prone to more cooling problems new head require £££ or get rid of vehicle. If your vehicle overheats with no loss of water this will probably be the culprit. your idiot lights will tell you to stop. do it, allow engine to cool turn on heater to full this may get you home but you will still need to keep stopping to allow engine to cool when idiot light come on again, or get towed.

Did this to my daughters Freelander, runs great just takes a bit longer to warm up , but still clears the screen in winter ok.

They used to remove 'em in the old days and put some cardboard over the grill on cold days! :D
