Posted August 20, 2015 Just wondering if any of you X11 guys has gone the whole hog and replaced all 10 or so brake lines with one of the braided kits available. I am aware that some people de link the brakes and then need just a coventional setup...but has anyone kept the liked brake system and gone the braided route??? Was it worthwhile?was it straightforward to do?Does anyone recommend doing it? 0 Share this post Link to post
Posted August 20, 2015 It can't do any harm... 15 yr old rubber hoses are bound to be past it! 0 Share this post Link to post
Posted August 21, 2015 Agreed.I have fitted braided to some of my bikes and I like the really firm feel at the lever. Then I jump on the X and it takes a bit a getting used to the slightly squidgy feel .There is nothing wrong with the stopping power, and if anything they are more progressive as they are.But as you say Eddy fourteen to fifteen year old hoses are bound to be past their best.Still £250 plus for a full set? 0 Share this post Link to post
Posted August 21, 2015 Aye, not cheap but I bet the originals are a damn sight dearer! 0 Share this post Link to post
Posted August 21, 2015 Hi Andy I helped goodridge finalise the design on the full set , Basically I purchased the first set at the Ally Pally show , it didn't fit so with a few emails and photo's we got it sorted ,It was a big improvement , well worth it but not cheep , Andy X11 has the Kit now , I delinked the brakes after a few years , now running CBR1000rr forks brakes wheels etc so diferent again , with braided hoses as well so now my brakes are awesome ! 0 Share this post Link to post
Posted August 21, 2015 So are the Goodridge sets out for sale at the moment ok now that you sorted the fitting issues John Or am Iikely to run into fitting issues? 0 Share this post Link to post
Posted August 21, 2015 (edited) No I think they revised the manufacturing afterwards , it was only a couple of the manifold blocks by the front mudguard the wrong way round, http://www.goodridge.co.uk/stainless-steel-standard-front-brake-hose-kit-for-honda-cb1100sf-x11-99-02 Can get a Hell kit from jaws motorcycles for the blackbird £220 , I'm not sure now but my Goodridge kit at the time was for the blackbird and X11. Posted August 22, 2015 I was looking at Blackbird sets, but was wondering if there would be an issue with the length of the front brakes lines as the X11 has different handlebars than the bird??? 0 Share this post Link to post
Posted August 22, 2015 Hi Andy if you look at goodridge site the front brake ppipe noumbers are not the same and they don't seem to made one for the rear brake.Where HEL mades a complete kit but it is cheaper buying it off JAWS.I don't know if you will have choice of colours ? 0 Share this post Link to post
Posted August 23, 2015 The sets from Jaws can be ordered longer for higher bars I believe. 0 Share this post Link to post
Posted August 24, 2015 This is true....some of the Blackbird guys have bar risers, and some fit normal tubular handlebars....The rest of the system should be the same as X11 I imagine 0 Share this post Link to post
